November at Joyful Alchemy (my studio) gives you two opportunities to practice kundalini activation in a group setting.

The word “activation” can lead to some apprehension, I know that I myself had some when I first heard of it. You may have even heard, as I was told my a loved one, that it can be “dangerous.”

I want to speak to that for a moment, and hopefully offer you some more clarity on the matter. Not to convince you of anything, but to provide a little insight into the subtleties of “kundalini” practices, because a lot of different types of practices use that same word.

The term Kundalini can be thought of as a spectrum of energy. Some of the energy is more palpable than others.

You can think of Kundalini energy as a full spectrum rainbow, and each aspect within that spectrum as one of the colors or frequencies.

In our practice of “Kundalini Activation”, we work with one of the colors of that rainbow. The “Prana Shakti”

The practice of transmitting the prana shakti frequency is considered a “Prana Pat” transmission.

The “Prana Shakti” is and has always been a part of you. It may have even been something you sensed or felt or experienced in some way in breathwork, chanting, or other spiritual practices.

In the practice of Kundalini Activation, we make opportunity for the Prana Shakti to move through your energetic body. When it does this, it may also clear away things that are held in your field that have left you in a contracted state.

What do I mean by a contracted state?

You can think of it as when someone is in fear or anxiety or sadness and the body folds in, the muscles get tight, there is a physical recoiling or gripping.

The opposite state would be expansion. Feelings of liberation, peace, joy, bliss or freedom even among the struggles of life as a human on this earth.

It does not keep us from those other feelings completely, but it makes space for the expanded states to become a part of our human experience more often and the contracted states less often. Or at least that has been my experience of the process.

In the practice of Kundalini Activation this clearing or purification, typically does not happen all at once. In fact, we do not intend for it to.

The flow of the Prana Shakti is meant to be gradual, loving, and to go at a pace that the nervous system, the mind, and the physical body all have time to adjust without experiencing a “healing crisis.”

We are avoiding the “too much, too soon” and taking our time, allowing any awakening to unfold through divine timing and grace rather than a push from the ego of the facilitator.

When you hear the stories of things being “Dangerous,” they are not speaking of the practice in the way it is held in my classes or through that uphold the Kundalini Arts lineage.

I value and uphold ethical, grounded, and patient practice. There is no rush, there is simply continual growth, softening, and expansion as we come back to the practice again and again and also take breaks when we feel they are needed.

What you may have heard labeled as being “dangerous” would likely have been a “Shakti Pat,” transmission. I would argue that “destabilizing” may be a more appropriate word.

Shaki Pat can be more intense and possibly destabilizing in the lay person who may not have adequately prepared their nervous system, mind, and body for that much energy running through them.

So, to recap, the practice that we call “Kundalini Activation” is a Prana Pat, and is by design gradual, cumulative, and nervous system friendly.

On a practical note, the practice consist of participants laying on a yoga mat, a dynamic playlist of music is shared (different every time) and the facilitator (me) amplifies the “prana shakti” field and holds it steady so that your own prana shakti within you can resonate (vibrate) and move easily within you.

You simply lay down, eyes closed, and notice this prana shakti field and all that it has to show you in that session. This could be a vision, a buzzing feeling, a floating feeling, a heavy feeling, a little shaking, emotions flowing, or nothing at all during the session and insights coming days or weeks later.

To stop it, you simply open your eyes and sit up.

To allow it, you simply relax into it. It’s that simple.

If you are interested in experiencing the practice, you can find a class here.

I hope this helps you better understand this practice as it is often beyond words, and so I do my best but if you find yourself left with questions please do reach out and ask me.

Take Care,

Heathir
